Chapter 20

Brooke

The magic crystals are humming this morning, giving a soft melody throughout the camp, the universe sending affirmation we are on the right path. The lighting all around us brightens.

Each soul feels the embrace of the mountain’s womb, welcoming us with all the magical crystals. The chimes sound like chants, and I know the universe understands. As we pack up to continue our journey, everyone is happy.

“I think those crystals have healing qualities or something that fed into my magic,” I mention as Kayla hands me a cup of coffee.

“I feel the same. It feels amazing,” Kayla agrees. she glows her this morning, and my heart is happy to see her genuinely in good spirits.

We travel at a leisurely pace, and eventually, we find another door that opens to a safe trail leading down toward the kingdom’s stronghold, the castle at the mystic mountain.

Rounding a bend in the mountain, I get my first view of a beautiful white castle nestled securely against a vast mountain. Fortified by sheer cliffs, waterfalls pour over the cliffs’ sides, making mist billow up around the base of the castle’s gated walls.

I see Kayla stiffen the moment she sees it. She would prefer the quiet in the woods over a castle with its little city feel. She glances my way, and I pretend not to notice her slight tell.

Looking down, it seems like a giant river cuts the two mountains, separating them as the river splashes into the ocean beyond the two mountains.

We travel toward a classic castle with rock walls with a lifted bridge at its gates, which is being lowered to allow passage from one mountain to the other. The castle gives off an aura of power.

“It’s a fortress,” I whisper in awe as I see how it sits, protected, a part of the mountain, and unreachable without passing over the drawbridge.

Fang reaches for my hand. He seems happy to be bringing me home. Sentinels stand watch as the group of us make our way to the entrance. Talen and Fang present themselves tall and dominant. My insides go molten seeing Fang in his element.

The ocean waves crash, singing an endless tune of rushing water ebbing to and from the shore. The waterfalls create a spray of mist. The smell of pine and ocean spray is soothing.

A village reveals itself beyond the wall, cobblestones paving a roadway throughout the village. The gates close behind us as we are greeted by warriors who resemble medieval knights dressed in shiny armor.

The village men lined the streets in greeting as they had heard of the queen’s arrival. The shiny guys keep the villagers out of our way as we quietly travel to the castle. I don’t notice any women—I only see men. The odd sensation of no females takes a back seat when all the men fall to the ground, bowing reverently. Our armbands start to glow.

The bowing men seem like they are kissing the ground. Silence greets us now, broken by the babies’ giggles as they are delighted by their glowing armbands.
